Wearing the Robe of Righteousness
“I put on righteousness as my clothing; justice was my robe and my turban.” Job 29:14
We all want to look our very best and choose just the right garment for that special occasion. Not only do we want the perfect attire, we probably will begin working on shaping our body to help it compliment that certain dress. Most of us take measures to shed a few extra pounds before the big event. Then there is the problem of the expense of the ideal “gown”. A lot goes into making ourselves ready to “impress”.
We were invited to be a part of a “royal” event. Yet the clothing that we were wearing was not appropriate for such, it was stained and torn. The garment that is required to attend is costly…so costly that it is far beyond or ability to pay. How wonderful that there is One who desperately desires for us to be clothed properly so that we won’t be refused. He has made it possible by paying the price, even Himself, that we could be arrayed in garments of righteousness. He bought it all then gave it to us as a free gift. The apparel is perfect. We don’t have to worry about its fit, for we have been changed to fit the special clothing. Many times, gifts are received that aren’t really wanted, so they are exchanged. Although, the gift of righteousness is not a gift that should be exchanged, too often it happens. Let us not reject this free gift of the robe of righteousness, but gratefully accept it and gladly tell others how they can have one, too.
